The real thing, of the Swiss Alps. Bloom consists of yellowish-white flowers surrounded by stars of flannel-textured, gray-white bracts. Needs well drained, rather lean soil. It's generally shorter-lived (2-7 years) than all others. Unique to this species is that they vary greatly from plant to plant in shape, size and coloring. Leaves and petals can be very narrow to broad, leaf color from green to silver, flower color from bright white to grayish-greenish tinged. Please see 'Matterhorn' for a “classic”, uniform selection or any other Leontopodium for longer-lived versions of the Edelweiss. BEFORE ORDERING, PLEASE read very important information about growing Edelweiss on top of the Edelweiss main page.
